The film – for which Alexandre Desplat’s score was recorded at Abbey Road Studios – took £6.6m at the box office on its opening Saturday, and also overtook the 2005 Harry Potter movie, Goblet of Fire, to post the UK’s biggest-ever weekend total in the UK.
Deathly Hallows: Part 1 also topped the previous best three-day opening in the UK, beating the £15.3m take for Quantum of Solace, the most recent James Bond film (score recorded on the 88RS at AIR Studios). UK sales of £17.5 million for its first three days on general release, were mirrored by US box office receipts of $125 million (£78.2 million) on its opening weekend.
Scoring sessions took place over five weeks in Abbey Road’s Neve 88RS-equipped Studio One, with Desplat conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. The project was mixed in the Penthouse on the Neve Capricorn by Peter Cobbin, Abbey Road’s director of engineering, assisted by Sam Okell.
