A message from our Educational Partner, Spirit Studios:
“To celebrate nearly 40 years of success and renowned expertise in audio engineering, with courses spanning the years delivering Music Production, Music Business, Electronic Music Production and Live, SSR Manchester has made the decision to return to its roots and rebrand as Spirit Studios. This change occurs on Nov. 27 2018.
Whilst still very much a major part of us, London shall remain as SSR until the climate is right, and will essentially continue with the work that they do, but having far greater autonomy over what they do. Additionally, our partner in Jakarta will also remain as SSR.
This whole change has come as a collaborative decision to ensure that the business continues to offer the best possible education for both its current and prospective students, through adapting to continuous changes within the education and creative industries.
To embrace this new stage of our history, Spirit Studios has welcomed a number of incremental changes and upgrades, including creating brand new classroom facilities, and making changes to common areas throughout the building.
For the first time, we will also house our very own radio station that will begin to air in 2019, providing new opportunities for all students and staff.
Other changes will continue apace towards the end of this year, and of course throughout the years to come.
These changes to our brand will help us to strengthen existing partnerships as well as forge on ahead, building new partnerships with industry as we compete to becoming the number one choice for music and audio education in the UK.
While gearing up for the re-brand, there seemed no better time to take a brief look back on the history of Spirit Studios, and its contribution to the music and audio industries, and to explain a little more about what will be the next leg of our journey.
Spirit Studios first opened its doors in 1980 as a recording studio, servicing the needs and demands of bands from the North West, many of which became household names. It’s heartening to know that our extensive list of Alumni have helped to produce some of the best of British music, be that in business, in the studio, home-studio or live, and is a position that with all our help and focus, the years ahead will be able to provide even more of.
Recognising an increase in demand for professionally trained sound engineers in the music industry, Spirit Studios soon became the first audio engineering and music production school in the UK in 1984!
After quickly outgrowing its Tariff Street premises, the contents of 4 small rehearsal rooms and a single 4-track recording studio were relocated to where we are now in Ardwick. It was here that we changed our name to the School of Sound Recording, or SSR as it better became known.
And so we are here, in 2018, and ready to return to our roots with Spirit Studios as we focus solely on a business that provides not only recording, but equally a future in many more aspects of the music industry. Spirit Studios is being created to reflect that change.
We look forward to continuing in the business of music education and playing a key part in the music scene, whilst preparing our current and prospective students for a successful future within the creative industries for many more decades to come.
