‘As soon I saw it had the name Neve on it, it was a wrap, a done deal.’ So says Walter ‘Clyde’
Orange of the Commodores (pictured), about his new Neve Genesys. Orange, one of two founder members still with the band, was the original lead vocalist and drummer, and wrote many of the Commodores’ hits – and had always liked the sound of Neve consoles. His new Genesys, supplied through GC Pro, the Neve Genesys distributor for the USA, now puts that Neve sound on tap in his home setup near Miami, Florida.
It was Akee Campbell, a long time friend and an account manager at GC Pro’s Miami store, who had contacted Orange to suggest that he check out the Genesys. And to ensure he had a proper chance to evaluate and appreciate the console’s unique combination of Neve analogue sound and DAW control, and see how it would enhance his workflow, Campbell arranged for Orange to test-drive the Genesys in his own studio.
‘No one had ever done that before, and I have owned five or so consoles in my life,’ Orange says. ‘GC Pro were totally professional in every way and I’ve got nothing but good things to say about them and the console.’
Following a European tour, the Commodores begin recording a new album using the new Genesys. ‘We’re going to start the record here and we hope to take it as far as we can in this studio,’ Orange says. ‘It sounds so incredible, we may be able to take it all the way.’
