The track, which is now available to download, will serve as the official song for Red Nose Day 2015, a star-studded comedy event that raises money to help those affected by poverty across Africa and in the U.K., sponsored by the non-profit Comic Relief.
The Neve 88RS large format analogue console was originally introduced in 2000 and has since remained the undoubted pinnacle of high-quality audio production. Installed in major studios worldwide, including Abbey Road, Air Studios, Skywalker Sound, Warner Bros, Fox, and including Capitol Studios, the Neve 88RS continues to produce award-winning music and motion picture film scores.
Smith and Legend will forego all royalties from the track, with Universal donating all profits to Comic Relief and will perform the special version of the song together on “Comic Relief – Face the Funny” during the first live telecast of the event on Friday 13th March on BBC One.
Sam Smith, fresh from his recent Grammy and BRIT Awards success, stated, “’Lay Me Down’ holds a very special place in my heart. Not only did I perform it at the Brits, I’m now going to perform it live on the Red Nose Day show with the extremely talented John Legend, which is so exciting.” He continued, “I recently visited a Comic Relief funded project in my hometown, which supports the young LGBT community in London. I’m extremely proud that my single will help raise money for projects like this and many others in the U.K. and across Africa.”
Legend added, “Sam is such a talented artist. We’ve been looking forward to working together for a while now. I’m so glad we could collaborate on such a great song and for such a great cause.”
