Neve outboard enhances mastering capability at Yash Raj

Bollywood major, YRF, has added Neve outboard to its AMS Neve collection
Yash Raj Films (YRF), one of Mumbai’s leading studios and a heavy user
of AMS Neve consoles, has now added Neve outboard to its mastering
facility. Founded in 1970 by the respected filmmaker, Yash Chopra, YRF
Studios has since branched out into TV, commercials and music videos,
home entertainment and music production (with its own YRF Music label).
Films remain at the heart of its integrated production facility, which
comprises three sound stages plus a fully-featured recording and post
production audio wing.
The company has also forged partnerships globally, both for distribution (it is India’s top film distributor) and production. YRF celebrated Diwali at the end of October with the release of Roadside Romeo, a joint production with Walt Disney and the first major Bollywood animation feature.
That comes hard on the heels of a bumper crop of awards for YRF at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, where Chak De! India, about a (fictional) Indian women’s hockey team, won Best Picture and eight other awards – including Best Sound Re-recording for Anuj Mathur of the company’s audio specialist division, YRF Studios.
The audio wing already has AMS Neve consoles in both its recording theatres (a 48-fader, 96-input 88R in the main room and a 24-fader, 96-input Libra Music in the other), along with an AMS Neve Libra Post console in the dubbing suite. It has also just taken delivery of a Neve 8051 multichannel 5.1 mastering compressor to supplement the 40-fader/160-input DFC2 in its film mix theatre.
Besides Roadside Romeo, Yash Raj Films’s late-2008 release schedule includes Bachna ae Haseeno (15 August), Dostana (14 November) and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (12 December).
