CineFile reconform feature proves a big
time-saver for production teams

AMS Neve's reconfiguration of BBC Wales’s DFC/CineFile system cuts Torchwood reconform operations to less than a minute per episode
With so many features packed into the AMS Neve CineFile, it is no surprise that from time to time customers discover uses they’d never envisaged themselves needing when they originally invested in the system. That was the case for BBC Wales, which had purchased CineFile as an add on to its DFC Gemini, primarily to help with deliverables.
Its award-winning drama, Torchwood, has been taken up by broadcasters across Europe, in French Canada and Latin America, for instance. Because CineFile can record multiple stems simultaneously, retaining each stem as a separate item, it becomes a simple matter to cater for such delivery requirements.
A different requirement – and solution – came with the BBC’s decision to broadcast cutdown ‘pre-watershed’ versions of Torchwood’s second series. This necessitated multiple cuts to remove imagery, subject matter or language deemed unacceptable for early-evening broadcast.
AMS Neve was able to reconfigure the DFC/CineFile system to allow simultaneous reconform of audio and automation, with any music edits being tidied up afterwards using CineFile’s built in editing facilities. The ability to use the video editor’s new Edit Decision List for the reconform meant that instead of lasting several hours per episode, reconform operations for automation and audio took less than a minute.
Full details of how to use the reconform function can be found in the DFC Gemini, available as a downloadable PDF at ams-neve.info/dfc/manuals.
