33609JD joins an impressive lineup of Neve outboard at the heart of the London studio’s signature sound
Opened in west London in 2004 by producer/engineer George Apsion, Kore Studios has already built an impressive client list, including work for Joss Stone, White Lies, Amy Winehouse, Magic Numbers and Kate Nash. Purpose built from the ground up and arranged over two floors, the studio offers an elegant, airy live space with two adjoining iso-booths, an expertly tuned control room and one of the most impressive mic cupboards and outboard collections in the country. After five years of catering to some of the industry’s biggest names, Kore has earned its place amongst the elite of London's studios.
AMS Neve products have played a key role in Kore's success. The studio's collection includes several reissues of classic mic amps such as the 1073 and 1081, alongside original modules from the 70s like the 31102.

'Neve products enhance your profile and appeal far more than glossy pictures or a fancy website ever could.' George Apsion |
'Whether it's recording or mixing, our rack of Neve mic preamps has come to define the sound of Kore,' he adds. 'Side by side they beautifully complement the original 70s units and impart a character and authority to signals that is unsurpassed. We do a lot of drum tracking for indie groups and rock bands down here, and the sounds these units allow you to dial in are enormous. This is the sound that keeps people coming back to us.'
Kore recently purchased the Neve Classic 33609JD stereo compressor to accompany its stellar selection of mic amps, posting an enthusiastic message on gearslutz.com to celebrate its arrival.
'We were asked to hire one in so often, it was only a matter of time before we bought our own!' says Apsion. 'It is a fantastic mix bus compressor but its cohesive qualities are also essential when tracking. My favourite recording chain is our pair of vintage Neumann U67 mics into 1073s, followed by the 33609 compressor. Drums, strings, horns, choirs, guitars… it all begins and ends with Neve. People feel privileged to use these boxes and we are thrilled to be able to offer them.'
